Naming
Sir Seimei Abe was a very famous master of ritual prayer over 1100 years ago in Kyoto, Japan. He was also known as an outstanding astronomer and conducted astronomical observations across Japan. Indeed, it is said he built Abe Shrine at the summit of Mt. Abe, very close to our Kyoto University Okayama Observatory, and performed his observations there. His activities established a deep affinity with both Kyoto and Okayama. Hence, our telescope's lovely nickname 'Seimei' is inspired by his name.
