Letters to the Editor

from Frank J MELILLO in CMO #220

@ . . . . Here are my latest images of Mars 6-7-99 UT.
As I was alerted by Marswatch newsletters, take a look at my red light images. They all look identically. I may have capture the dust along the NW of the disk near the limb. That location is Arcadia. Please, let me know if you see anything.

@ . . . . I made some CCD images of Mars 6-11-99 from 3:30 to 4:30 UT. About 3:30 UT at cm = 125 degrees, I must say that there are perhaps two dust clouds in red light Wr. #25 (now I'm pretty sure they are not contrast effect) along the evening terminator. One between Tempe and Arcadia which is more circular appearance and the other one is more elongated around Tharsis area north of Solis Lacus. Please, verify if someone had seen the same thing. The images will follow shortly.

@ . . . . Again, I want to inform you that I took some CCD images of Mars in red light about 3:45 to 4:30 UT (CM = 125 degrees) on 6-12-99. The two white dust clouds are still there near the evening terminator. They didn't change much from the night before. They are quite small and appear locally. The images of 6-11-99 and 6-12-99 UT will follow shortly.
