Waves and Shocks in the Solar Atmosphere
Viggo Hansteen
There is a large volume of observations showing wave phenomena in the
solar chromosphere and corona. These waves affect the very structure
of the
atmosphere, and may contribute to the heating of both the chromosphere,
transition region and corona. They also provide powerful diagnostics
using
seismological techniques. In this talk we will review the
observations of waves and compare these with simulations of wave
excitation in the solar convection zone and of wave propagation and mode
conversion in realistic magnetic field topologies.
