Subject: Re: Happy Birthday!

Dear Masatsugu, Hiroshi, Yukio, Masami, and Hitomi,

Thank you all so much for taking the time to send me the birthday card. It was quite a surprise! --Especially the drawing of me with my telescope!

In fact, I am about to observe Mars...since it is my birthday, I don't have to feel guilty about being late for dinner!

Thanks again for your kind thoughts,

Best,

@ . . . . . . Here are more Mars images from 28 Jan and 2 Feb. Note the darkening in Daedalia -- a change since the dust storm. The seeing here has been poor.

Hopefully we can get observations of this region by those of you to the west of Miami.

 Best,

(3 February 2002 email)

@ . . . . . . Here are some Mars images from 3 Feb. Again, the darkening in Daedalia-Claritas is conspicuous, forming a streak between Sirenum Sinus and Solis Lacus. In addition, the tiny SPC is visible.

@ . . . . . . Here are some images from 15 November that I forgot to send! Poor seeing but interesting SPC outliers on SW limb.
