@. . . . . . . . Here is an observation from yesterday morning. Seeing was good enough to keep my eye at the eyepiece for a while...

Best Wishes

@. . . . . . Here is an observation from this morning. Better seeing allowed more to be seen. I also just realized, which is worth notions that my observation was made at almost exactly the same time as Antonio's latest images. Best Wishes

INFORMATION FOR MARS OBSERVATION, MAY 11th, 2001.

D. A. Peach, King's Lynn, Norfolk, UK.

12" (30.5cm) Meade SCT.

Magnifications: 406X.

Filters: Unfiltered/W#25/W#38A.

Seeing very poor (0-3) at 12degs. Seeing fair (4-6) at 40degs.

Transparency good (4.0mag) slight high haze.

Wind NE (0-5mph.) No dew.

Observation Time: 03:00 - 03:25 UT

Mars CML: 161.9

Ls: 159.5

Diameter: 15.94"

Altitude of Mars: 12.5 - 12.0degs.

Comments: Very poor seeing this morning, but some details were noted with patience.

A morning limb haze was again present, across Aeolis, Aethiopis, Aetheria, Cebrenia though appeared weaker than previous mornings. Weak evening clouds over Tharsis, particularly toward the position of Ascraeus Mons. No Olympus Mons cloud noted. SPH again very bright.

The albedo markings appeared more washed out due to seeing, but all the major markings across the region were noted in the W25 filter. Mare Sirenum/Cimmerium prominent.

Trivium/Cerberus faintly visible. Propontis also faintly visible at times. Lemuria also observed as on previous mornings.

@. . . . . . . . . . Here are my latest observations (from 22 May 2001). Finally, good enough seeing occurred to allow high resolution views....certainly my finest views of Mars to date. No images as I had to be at work just 3hrs after observing so have been feeling rather tired today.

Most interesting was that the Ophir/Candor region appeared noticeably bright in red (W#25 filter.) Best Wishes

INFORMATION FOR MARS OBSERVATION, MAY 22nd, 2001.

D. A. Peach, King's Lynn, Norfolk, UK.

12" (30.5cm) Meade SCT.

Magnifications: 406X.

Filters: W#25/W#80A/Unfiltered.

Seeing fair-variable (4-7) with stable periods occurring. Seeing good (5-8) at ~40 degs. Transparency very good (4.5mag) scattered high cirrus.  Light wind, variable direction. Light dew.

Observation Time: 03:00 - 03:25 UT

Mars CML: 46.6 - 57.5degs

Ls: 165.3

Diameter: 17.77"

Altitude of Mars: 12.0 - 10.8degs.

Comments: Periods of stable seeing occurring this morning at times allowed a considerable amount to be seen. The finest views were through the W#25 filter.

Mare Erythraeum appeared dark with varying albedo across the region. The darkest areas were Aurorae Sinus, Protei Regio. Margaritifer Sinus/Oxia Palus also appeared dark. Eos/Pyrrhae Regio appeared lighter. Juventae Fons appeared dark, as did its neighboring small projections. Sinus Meridiani was well observed early in the session and also appeared dark. Agathodaemon/Tithonius Lacus appeared prominent "Y" shape, giving the prominent Solis Lacus its classic "eye of Mars" appearance.

Ophir/Candor appeared noticeably bright in W#25, but not so much in the W#80A. Mare Acidalium appeared well defined and dark. Nilokeras appeared fainter, but Idaeus Fons/Achillis Fons appeared

dark.

In the W#80A filter, Chryse appeared cloudless, but a brilliant morning limb haze (MLH) was noted extending from the brilliant SPH, northward across Tharsis, Tempe, to the NPC. Also faint clouds noted on the evening limb over Moab/Eden. These were also noted unfiltered, but not as prominently.
