Hi all,

I was up a bit earlier to try and catch Mars at maximum altitude, and found some reasonable seeing conditions.

Aurorae Sinus is above centre, with Valles Marineris extending above it. Nilokeras is seen below centre, with Niliacus Lacus and Mare Acidalium at lower left.

Solis Lacus is at upper right and the expanse of Mare Erythraeum at upper left.

A band of clouds can be seen above the NPC.

Hi all,

I recently returned from a few weeks in South Africa, with plenty of wind and cloud over this region at this time of year.

But I did manage a Mars session this morning,

looking down on the Tharsis region. Some cloud was noticeable, including over Arsia Mons above centre.

Dear all,

I thought I would never see the stars again, but at last low clouds temporarily cleared up to reveal a banded cirrostratus sky with lunar halo and red planet. So pretty dismal, very humid and lightly foggy conditions this time, with unstable and varying seeing, which however resulted in this contribution.

The large northern cap appears visible in IR, and marginally in R, under a partially transparent hood which joins a wide morning limb arc. Perhaps the limb arc is a bit lighter at the extreme southern limb as well. No detached east-west cloud bands in the north, as was apparent a month ago. Albedo features look normal.

Attached is a set of Mars images from November 12. Bad seeing (1/5). Good transparency.

I was quite windy. Each channel utilized a 2.5 millisecond exposure per frame. 3 minutes of data were captured for each channel. The minimum frame rate was 383 frames per second! Only 2% of captured data was used for each channel.
