Hi all,

I had an early Saturn session, but aborted the Mars captures thereafter with poor seeing and the planet still too low.

I did have a quick check-in after sunrise when I collected the Saturn data from the observatory and found some decent conditions in the IR.

There may be a hint of a few subtle features: Nepenthes, Nodus Alcyonis and Sinus Gomer.

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from this morning using a Baader 685nm longpass filter.

Seeing was variable, poor with local cloud at the start of the session and better near the end however only IR was possible thanks to the persistent jetstream blurring.

30 images were combined in Winjupos spanning 63 minutes showing a number of faint cloud features both north and south of the equator.

Best regards

Hi all,

I had relatively decent conditions for this image set from this morning with Syrtis Minor and Posidium Pr central. Syrtis Major extends down to the lower right, with Hellas to the upper right. Mare Hadriacum extends along the eastern (left) edge of Hellas. Mare Tyrrhenum extends from upper left towards the centre with the light Hesperia “rift” to its left. Mare Cimmerium, with its sharp tip, Tritonis Sinus, extends in from the left limb. The region to the lower left doesn’t indicate any obvious features as yet.

Syrtis Major is coming more into view at left.

Image set from this morning with Sinus Sabeaus and Sinus Meridiani extending across the centre of the planet. Syrtis Major is on the left limb, with Hellas on the upper left limb. Mare Erythraeum is at upper right, with Niliacus Lacus at lower right.

The north polar hood appears quite asymmetric at this stage, extending over the Mare Acidalium region. Arabia is at lower left.

I had very strong (>50m/s) Jetstream conditions for the session. I only realised yesterday after processing that the recent below average seeing conditions may have been due to the Jetstream, which has been strong the last few days.

Interesting, Clyde. I think that nonpermanent features in Chryse and Xanthe, including "canals" Hydaspes, Iamuna, and Hydraotes, can be hard to pin down. The documentation of their exact locations, historically, is not very firm, but there is no question that these features have been visible from time to time. The biggest change in the last few apparitions has been the darkening and widening of Oxia Palus and the "canal" Indus. It will be interesting to see whether the fainter features in Chryse and Xanthe become visible this apparition.

Hi all,

Mars image set from yesterday morning, where the conditions had improved a bit from what I had for Saturn earlier.

Quite a few features to note: Chryse below centre, Aurorae Sinus is to the right of centre, Solis Lacus towards the upper right limb, Valles Marineris extending towards the right limb, Mare Erythraeum above centre, Argyre at upper centre, Sinus Meridiani on the left limb, Margarifiter Sinus to the left of centre, Nilokeras at lower right, Niliacus Lacus and Mare Acidalium at lower left.

I also noticed the dark feature extending NW for Margaritifer S. There are a few features in that region indicated on the Ebisawa map, including an interesting (1838-1879) note. In the ALPO-Japan Adachi maps, the closest marking may be Hydraotes?

Hi all, some not-awful seeing this morning for a change, here's an IR image using a 750nm longpass filter and a colour image.

The IR image shows the faint Anticyclonic Vortex storm remnant from 2010. It's getting harder to see each year as it slowly fades. I've included a more enhanced inset that shows it more clearly.

Thanks to Trevor for generating the ephemeris for this so I know roughly when & where to look for it.

Best regards
Anthony

Hi All,
I made a GIF image of the change in the ring tilt from 2001 to 2024 (no 2002) on Saturn.

The quality of the images and the colors are not consistent.
The Great White Spot activity can be seen in 2011. The top is north.

Hi all,

Conditions were not particularly good yesterday morning.

Aurorae Sinus is central, with the expanse of Mare Erythraeum at upper left. Nilokeras is lower centre with Niliakus Lacus visible at lower left. Possibly some cloud in the Argyre region.

Hi all,

A catch up set from the weekend, when it was nice to have my visitors sit in on the session.

Looking down on the Tharsis region.

Hi all,

A combination of oversleeping and seeing conditions well below average made me stay with a string of IR captures this morning.

Solis Lacus is above centre with Valles Marineris extending in from the left to the centre. Aurorae Sinus is near the left central limb.

Hi all,

I have been a bit sidetracked the last few days, entertaining visitors on the farm.

I did manage to image this morning, with Solis Lacus above centre and Valles Marineris extending in from the centre left.
