Hi all,
some reasonable seeing this morning on Saturn.
I
recorded 22 images covering 1500utc to 1600utc through a 750nm longpass filter
and combined them in Winjupos to get the attached result.
The
bright storm at 55 degrees South can be seen and is shown enhanced in the
inset.

Hi
everyone, my apologies if you receive this multiple times but I'm trying to
make sure everyone in my address book gets this message.
My
email address and website domain have changed. My email address is now awesley@acquerra.au, please use only this email address for me and remove any
other ones you may have.
My
website is now http://www.acquerra.au. Nothing
else has changed except the domain name.
My old
email and website will continue for a while longer but I plan to close the
acquerra.com.au domain in the near future so they will stop working at some
point.
All the

Hi all,
here's an image of Saturn from this morning in below average seeing.
We've
had many days of poor seeing lately but this morning was
marginally better, enough to record 6 runs in IR750 longpass and merge
them in Winjupos.
best regards
Anthony

the Earth Smiled'! ... And a new beginning

The
idea had its origins in my participation in the planning of the original 1990
Pale Blue Dot image of Earth taken by Voyager 1 from beyond the orbit of
It had occurred to me, in the planning of the Cassini redo, how great it would
be if we let the people of the world know in advance that their picture would
be taken from a billion miles away, and invite them at the appropriate time to
go out, contemplate the isolation of our home in space, appreciate the rarity
it is among the sun’s planets, marvel at all of life on Earth, and smile at
simply being alive on a pale blue dot. It would be, I thought, a chance
to stoke some planetary love among the inhabitants of Earth.
And so we sent out the word. The big day would be
I wrote a piece for the BBC website describing the 'why, how, when and where'
of the upcoming event: https://tinyurl.com/ys8586bu
Richard Branson personally invited his fans and followers to join the
party: https://tinyurl.com/79u5wab3
Morgan Freeman assisted in spreading the word by narrating a short video clip
to the music of Stevie Wonder: https://tinyurl.com/yc8cxn7n
And at the appointed time, people the world over went outside, with friends and
family, to look up, contemplate their own lives and cosmic whereabouts, and
thrill at the thought of having their picture taken from so far away.
I suspect today there will be many remembrances of this event on social
media. Here is one of which I'm sure: a chat I had with my friends
at StarTalk, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Chuck Nice, about the genesis of the Day
the Earth Smiled image and event: https://youtu.be/ed9cXc1sR4k
It is certainly for me a lovely memory, one I will enjoy until the end of my
days.
--------------------------------------------------
I also thought today would be a fine day to repurpose the old CICLOPS public
email list that I used for 18 years to announce news of our fabulous
discoveries during our 20-year journey to and around Saturn. The face of
social media is rapidly changing and very uncertain. In response, I've decided
to begin a newsletter of sorts that I would occasionally write to supplement,
maybe even substitute, for social media in sharing my thoughts on important
developments in the world and, of course, new scientific findings and
advancements. It will, at the very least, be an interesting
experiment. I hope you will agree.
If you know of others who would like to be included on the list, tell
them they can subscribe at ...
https://listserv.ciclops.org/mailman/listinfo/announce ... or, send a blank email to announce-join@listserv.ciclops.org
Once I have approved the request, the newcomer will receive an email
containing a link to click that will confirm their subscription.
For those of you who wish to be removed, that's easy too. Send a
blank email to: announce-leave@listserv.ciclops.org
And that's it for now. Happy 'Day the Earth
Smiled' to all of you!
With every good wish,
Carolyn Porco

Hi all,
Here
are my first Saturn images for the season. I have been lazy to run derotation
so there is none here. The idea for me was only to take a look at the colors.
On the southern winter hemisphere, the blue-absorbing chromophores are still
not active, and at the result the colors are cold like in 2022. Green, pink,
violet, some really rare colors for such a yellow planet!
Let's
see if this evolves during the course of the apparition.
